The Vought F4U-1A Corsair was one of the most distinctive and capable fighter aircraft of World War II. Nicknamed “Whistling Death” by Japanese forces due to the unique sound of its wing-mounted air intakes, the Corsair combined exceptional performance with rugged reliability. Its distinctive inverted gull-wing design, necessary to accommodate its massive propeller, became one of the most recognizable silhouettes in aviation history.
