Add a distinctive piece of 1980s French motoring history to your collection with this Renault 14 TS Rouge 705 1983 1:18 Scale Resin Model Car by OttOmobile. Produced as OttOmobile reference OT1409, this limited-edition model recreates the range-topping Renault 14 TS from the final year of Renault 14 production, finished in striking Rouge 705. OttOmobile has restricted this 1:18 scale collector model to just 999 examples.

Introduced in 1976, the Renault 14 was Renault’s first compact hatchback and brought several important developments to the manufacturer’s range. It was one of Renault’s earliest cars designed with the assistance of computer-aided design, while its transverse-mounted engine helped maximise passenger space within its compact dimensions. The distinctive five-door hatchback shape became one of the most recognisable Renault designs of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The Renault 14 TS joined the range in 1979 as the best-equipped and most powerful version. By 1983, the TS featured a 1,360cc four-cylinder engine producing 70 PS, front-wheel drive and a five-speed manual gearbox. Equipment associated with the higher-specification TS included electric front windows, electromagnetic central door locking, a rev counter, centre console and rear wash/wipe, giving it an unusually generous specification for a compact family hatchback of its era.

OttOmobile recreates the 1983 Renault 14 TS in detailed 1:18 scale resin, capturing its characteristic rounded hatchback profile, compact proportions, period trim and distinctive early-1980s Renault styling. The Rouge 705 finish complements the model’s period appearance, while the larger scale allows the exterior details, glazing, wheels and interior to be appreciated clearly when displayed.

About the Renault 14 TS

The Renault 14 was launched in 1976 to give Renault a modern compact five-door hatchback positioned between its smaller models and the Renault 12. Its unconventional rounded profile became a defining feature of the car and was famously highlighted by Renault itself through advertising that compared its shape with a pear. Today, that unmistakable styling forms an important part of the Renault 14’s identity as a classic French car of the period.

The Renault 14 was also technically significant. It was among Renault’s first vehicles developed using computer-aided design, and its transverse-mounted engine represented a new layout for the marque. The compact powertrain arrangement helped provide generous passenger space and made the 14 an important step in the evolution of Renault’s front-wheel-drive family hatchbacks.

The TS specification represented the top of the Renault 14 range. Introduced in 1979, it initially used a 1,218cc engine before moving to the more powerful 1,360cc unit in 1980. In its 1983 form, the naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine produced around 70 PS, with power delivered to the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. The TS also offered additional comfort and convenience equipment that distinguished it from less expensive Renault 14 variants.

A Final-Year Renault 14

The 1983 Renault 14 TS is particularly interesting because 1983 marked the final year of Renault 14 production. By this stage the car incorporated the later styling and more powerful 1.4-litre TS specification, placing it at the culmination of the model’s development before Renault’s compact range moved on to the Renault 9 and Renault 11 generation.

Nearly one million Renault 14s were produced during the model’s lifetime, yet surviving examples are now considerably less common than many other European family cars of the period. That makes the Renault 14 an unusual and characterful subject for collectors interested in everyday cars and lesser-modelled vehicles from the 1970s and 1980s.

Why This Model Stands Out

The OttOmobile Renault 14 TS OT1409 represents exactly the sort of subject for which OttOmobile has become popular with collectors: a once-familiar European road car that is rarely reproduced as a large-scale collector model. Rather than another exotic or competition car, OT1409 captures an important piece of everyday French motoring history in an impressive 1:18 format.

The combination of the range-topping TS specification, final 1983 model year and period Rouge 705 finish gives the model a particularly strong identity. OttOmobile’s production limit of only 999 examples further adds to its collector appeal, particularly for enthusiasts building collections around Renault, French cars, European hatchbacks or 1980s motoring.

Collector’s Note

The Renault 14 is an excellent example of the enthusiast-focused subjects that distinguish OttOmobile’s range. Although nearly one million full-size Renault 14s were produced, the model is much less frequently represented in larger collector scales than Renault’s sporting and performance cars. This 1983 TS in Rouge 705 represents the most powerful and best-equipped Renault 14 specification from the model’s final production year, while OttOmobile’s OT1409 release is limited to just 999 examples.
